AUDIO RESTORATION/REPAIR
The project I brought to Doug Stevens, (Creative Audio and Music), in August of 2019 was a challenging one for several reasons, but my immediate concern, as I sat down in his studio for the first time, was how he would react to the difficult content of my childhood-abuse story,
Saving Judy Pocketbook.
I decided to read the entire 2- hour, three-act play to him from beginning to end. When I finished and looked up from my script, I knew that he had already committed to guiding me through this process. And so began a remarkable journey that ended in September of 2020 during quarantine, when Doug brought portable equipment to my house so we could complete recording the last two-minute intro and closing required by Audible.
Listening to the credits at the end of other audio plays I hear acknowledgments of an entire staff of professionals who helped make the recording . . . producers and executive producers, directors, editors, sound designers, etc. There were TWO of us working on my project! Fortunately, Doug had the skill and experience necessary to produce a top-notch recording in spite of working with a novice playwright/narrator. He is a perfectionist, with incredibly high standards—but so am I, so we worked really well together. But when the atmosphere got a little tense, Doug— who spent his career as a very successful comedian— would entertain me with his silliness, and my equilibrium would be restored. Doug is also a singer-songwriter, and I grew to really appreciate his intuitive musical sense as we added 13 pieces of music to my recording. And, because my play is actually a "verse memoir " (a continuous narrative made up of 75 discreet pieces of writing), the whole recording process was a challenge of patience and content organization that might have felled a lesser audio producer!
I recommend Doug, for so many reasons, both personal and professional, and will always be grateful that I had this opportunity to work with him. I can't imagine what it would have been like to entrust this project—
so dear to my heart— to anyone else!
Linda Lipton, Author, "Saving Judy Pocketbook"
"Douglas is a top-tier audio guy with a million dollar ear. I've worked with him on many projects, and I've always been very happy with the results. He's a pleasure to work with and brings a highly creative eye and ear to the process. He even saved some distorted audio that I thought was unsalvageable. I highly recommend Douglas for quality audio production and post."
Rob Kirwan, Executive Producer Powderhouse Productions
"Red has the best-produced radio show on my channels." Howard Stern, Sirius XM Satellite Radio
"Douglas Stevens helped me produce an audio version on my book, a memoir, and my experience was outstanding. If you are contemplating an audio book, you will not do better than Douglas. In addition to a state-of-the-art recording studio (please don't attempt an audio book in your home!), Douglas provided expert direction, coaching and advice. He carefully read the text as I was narrating it, noting any discrepancies or sound issues. He was 100% engaged and totally invested in the project's success. With great skill, reflecting many years of experience, he seamlessly inserted corrections, tightened pauses, adjusted the volume where needed -- his attention to detail is exquisite. I'm very proud of the high-quality finished product that resulted from my working with Douglas. He is a consummate professional and also takes great joy in what he does. An absolute pleasure to work with."
Catherine Marenghi, Author, "Glad Farm"
"I have worked with Douglas many times over the years, and each time it is a better experience. He is without a doubt, one of the most creative people I have worked with in my career. If you need a fun, totally engaged partner to get your message out there, give CA&M a call. You won't be sorry."
Paul Joyal, Director Of Marketing, Boston MedFlight
